Foundation Official Linespersons' Training Qualifies
More Local Officials for Upcoming Pro Events
On June 22 and 23, the Foundation conducted
a Professional Linesperson Training at the Punahou Tennis Center in
Honolulu. 18 people attended, with a total of 11 qualifying for the
upcoming $140,000 WTA event at the Hilton Waikoloa on the Big Island in
September.
With Foundation direct
contact with key national volunteers and staff, the USTA national office
once again sent esteemed national trainer John Wong from the mainland to
conduct the training. Wong indicated that the quality of the group was
"extraordinary". Wong acknowledged not only the commitment and
quality of those attending the seminar but also the service which the
Foundation provides to Hawaii's tennis scene.
The training proved even
better than last year's as Foundation volunteers and official
"graduates" Alex Smith and Myrah Kim helped Wong with coaching
and instructing our new linespersons. Smith and and Kim, along with John
Bennett, served as the three local officials for last year's events. All
three have committed to work the upcoming event, along with at least
three of this year's "graduates". Hawaii is starting to make
progress in expanding its place in the tennis world.
Those completing the
intensive training session are:
- David Berman
- Bruce Brent
- Dick Lee
- Dave Mueh
- Ron Sera
- Stef Higa
- Allyson Houston
- Rusty Dyer
