Foundation Honors Students and Volunteers- Elects New Board

The Hawaii Pacific Tennis Foundation held its first awards banquet and annual meeting on December 13 at Ruth's Chris Restaurant in Honolulu. Over 30 invitees attended to honor Hui Kenika students and some of the Foundation's top volunteers. The Foundation also elected its Board of Directors for 2003.

Seven year-old Caroline Kuzio and 13 year-old Diego Munoz each garnered Hui Kenika No Na Keiki Junor of the Year honors. Kuzio, a second grader, has shown tremendous personal growth on and off the tennis court over the past year. Munoz, an eighth grader has a respecful, friendly style with a strong work ethic.

The Foundation also honored Mia Noguchi as its 2002 Volunteer of the Year. Noguchi, a vice-president at McNeil Wilson Communications, has focused the Foundation on publicity, promotion and professionalism while also providing constructively critical input at appropriate times.

The Foundation's executive director and the 2002 Board of Directors also presented president Sam Caldwell with a special recognition award for selfless service, leadership, integrity and generosity. Caldwell, a long time servant for tennis in Hawaii, has served the past two years as the Foundation's president and will continue another term.

At the dinner business meeting, the Foundation elected the following slate:

  • President: Sam Caldwell
  • Vice-President: Richard Poirier
  • Treasurer: Alex Smith
  • Secretary: Mia Noguchi

Directors at Large:

  • Gaynielle Fujimoto
  • Obie Olson
  • Darin Shigeta
  • David Stringer
