Foundation, City and Section Obtain $35,000 Grant to Market Central Oahu Regional Park Tennis Complex

The City Parks Forum, a division of the American Planning Association, has awarded a $35,000 grant to the City and County of Honolulu to market the new tennis complex at Central Oahu Regional Park with the Hawaii-Pacific Tennis Foundation and USTA/ Hawaii Pacific Section as partners. The grant, which is allocated to pay expenses for developing and implementing a marketing plan for the new tennis facility will allow the Foundation and the Section to partner in enhancing the sports tourism component for the 20 court facility as well as to market the facility to Oahu's general public.

The City has asked Foundation Executive Director Mark Beede and the Section's Executive Director Ron Romano to work together to formulate and effect a strategy to attract mainland and international events to the facility as well as promote local participation at the park. According to Beede, "The grant provides a tremendous opportunity for everyone to pull together to promote and develop the growth of tennis on Oahu by focusing on Central Oahu Regional Park and the opportunities it provides. I'm positive that we can achieve great things by working together for the common good. The City's initiative in applying for and obtaining the grant provides a great opportunity to do good."

The City, Foundation and Section will utilize the grant to offset expenses in developing and implementing the plan. No grant monies are allocated to pay salaries. The Foundation and Section will each provide staff time free of charge.

The Hawaii-Pacific Tennis Foundation is a not for profit 501(c)(3) charity committed to promoting and developing the growth of tennis. For more information contact Executive Director Mark Beede by email at beede@hawaiitennis.org or by telephone at (808)479–6727.
