Foundation Reaches Agreement with Army to Run Programs at Schofield, Tripler and Ft. ShafterThe Hawaii-Pacific Tennis Foundation has agreed with the Army to continue to handle Army tennis operations on Oahu, specifically at Schofield Barracks, Tripler Army Medical Center and Fort Shafter, as well as at Wheeler Army Air Field and Helemano Military Reservation. The agreement, with options, covers five years and allows the Foundation to significantly move forward with programs and events for Oahu's tennis community. Since September 11, tennis activity has slowed on Army military installations. However, with the new contract, the Foundation will significantly expand activities, especially with new pro Rusty Dyer coming on board to work full time. According to Foundation executive director Mark Beede, "the new contract now allows us to turn the corner from last year's terrorism and move forward with confidence to serve not only our Army personnel but also Oahu's general tennis playing public." With the new contract, the Foundation has developed a full event schedule for the rest of the year. |
