President's Remarks

As an individual, as well as president of the Hawaii-Pacific Tennis Foundation, I believe in tennis not only as the "sport for a lifetime", but also as a means to individual and community improvement. People have asked me why I have stayed involved with tennis for so long, especially now that I don't play as much as I once did. While, sometimes, it is difficult to give precise reasons, generally I am involved because I continue to find tennis fun and fulfilling. The more experienced (or older) I get, the more I recognize the importance of service to others.

As a not-for-profit charitable organization, the Hawaii-Pacific Tennis Foundation is predicated upon service to others. I fully support the Foundation's dreams of bringing tennis to Hawaii's people, especially its youth. I fully support the Foundation's dream for a world class tennis facility at Central Oahu Regional Park which will showcase tennis not only for current players, but also to Oahu and Hawaii's general public.

For those of us involved as tennis volunteers and/or professionals, we all need to work together to achieve the best for tennis and the people of Hawaii. All too often within the past several years, personal differences and sometimes petty politics have hindered our collective abilities to achieve. We must all come together to do what is right. By working together, we can achieve great things.

I ask that each of you work with me and the Hawaii-Pacific Tennis Foundation, as well as other groups, to unify tennis in Hawaii and truly make this a better world for our youth and for us all. If you would like to work with us or have ideas on how we can all work better together, please feel free to call or contact me at any time at my office, (808)538-7636 or by email at srcaldwell@aol.com.

Aloha and mahalo,
Sam Caldwell, President
Hawaii-Pacific Tennis Foundation
